Defective solar cells can destroy an entire module. Thermography is a great choice for preventative maintenance of photovoltaics installations because defective areas or faulty operating conditions can be detected via a thermal image. The new thermoIMAGER TIM LightWeight miniature IR camera from Micro-Epsilon was specifically designed for use with quadrocopters (similar to a remote-controlled small helicopter but with 4 blades). These can be used to inspect solar installations over large areas or on high roofs simply and cost-effectively.
The new system comprises a miniature IR camera and the NetBox mini PC. With a total weight of just 350g, the TIM LightWeight is the perfect choice for flight applications. IR video recordings can be launched directly through a button on the camera housing; the recording is stored on a microSD storage card in the NetBox. The high resolution infrared camera offers an optical resolution of 382x288 pixels and a thermal resolution of up to 40mK.
