This autumn, Micro-Epsilon celebrates its 45th anniversary. The company was founded in 1968 and sold high-temperature sensors for the energy sector. An entrepreneurial urge quickly led to the idea of expanding the sales aspect by adding development and manufacturing departments. Technological highlights included developing the first digital measuring system (1984), the smallest eddy current sensor in the world (1988), introducing the first triangulation sensor (1992) and the world’s smallest confocal sensor (2006), introducing an automated paint inspection system for automotive production, as well as a flat, temperature-resistant coil (embedded-coil technology) for eddy-current and capacitive sensors. In 2012, Micro-Epsilon presented the spectral inline colour measurement system. And in the last few months, multicopters have been flying over PV solar installations, carrying ultra-lightweight infrared cameras from Micro-Epsilon.
In the company's development department at its main office in the German town of Ortenburg, numerous research collaborations, and cooperation between engineers within the Group enable Micro-Epsilon to develop and manufacture custom sensors in addition to standard catalogue products. Sensors and measurement systems from Micro-Epsilon are used for automation, measurement, testing and monitoring purposes. The sensors are employed in test benches, production lines, R&D, and also directly in machines and test equipment. We serve small businesses as well as large global players and deal with orders for small batches right up to high volume series production.
The family-run company has the slogan “More precision”. “More precision” stands not only for the measurement accuracy and high quality of the products, but also applies to providing professional technical advice with service consultants taking into account the customer's technical and financial situation.
