Color measurement under extreme process conditions

Farbmessung unter extremen Prozessbedingungen

Extreme conditions prevail when extruding plastics, gelatin or other highly viscous materials. With the new high-temperature and high-pressure resistant CFS sensor variants, color can now be monitored directly in the extruder at pressures up to 2,400 bar and temperatures up to +500 °C. The sensors are integrated directly into the extruder and detect color changes where they occur.

Detect process deviations before scrap is produced
Precise temperature control is crucial during extrusion. If the material is heated too much, thermal damage, burning or unwanted discoloration may occur. Continuous color measurement detects even the smallest changes at an early stage and enables direct process control. Corrective action can therefore be taken before defective material is processed further.

Precise measurement for transparent and opaque materials
Depending on the material, the measurement is performed using either the transmission or reflection method. CFS3 sensors are suitable, for example, for transparent media such as gelatin, while CFS4 sensors measure opaque materials such as plastics using the reflection method. In combination with the colorSENSOR CFO250, the system achieves high repeatability of ΔE ≤ 0.3 and therefore reliably detects even small color deviations.

Robust inline solution for demanding processes
The sensors can be integrated directly into the extruder via 1/2"-20 UNF or M12 connections. The colorSENSOR CFO250 offers fast measured value acquisition, multi-teach functions and intuitive web-based operation. This combines high color accuracy with a robust design for demanding production conditions and enables reliable inline process monitoring.
